Arcola Theatre

THIS Dalston-based studio theatre has been a pioneering force of both drama and sustainable technology since it was founded in 2000, and has developed a reputation for creative excellence and social conscience.

The Arcola has staged work by some of the world's most acclaimed actors, writers and directors, including productions by William Gaskill, Ariel Dorfman and Frank McGuinness.

Now housed in a converted paint-manufacturing workshop on Ashwin Street, the multiple award-winning venue features two 240-capacity studios, two rehearsal rooms and a café/bar.

Around the corner, the theatre’s new ‘tent’ venue holds an audience of up to 300 under canvas, with an interior constructed from rescued materials.

The Arcola also runs one of the most extensive multi-cultural community and youth programmes in East London and was among the recording-breaking participants in the 10:10 project, reducing its carbon emissions by 32 per cent.

The main theatre sells a limited number of tickets at a reduced rate on weekly ‘pay what you can Tuesdays’.
