We love weekends

THIS weekend's selection of what's on in Hackney features a funny film festival, entertaining children’s theatre and a night of jazz and poetry with Michael Rosen.

Jazz and poetry with Michael Rosen: Clapton Music Club

Hackney resident and ex-children’s poet laureate Michael Rosen is teaming up with Dalston band The Dulce Tones for an evening of music at Clapton Music Club. The 69 Powerscroft Road event runs from 7.30pm to midnight. All profits go towards renovating the public toilets on Chatsworth Road. Friday, 25 January

Hackney children’s theatre: St John-at-Hackney Church

London’s newest venue for young audiences presents a family variety spectacular this Saturday at St John at Hackney Church. With a mix of strange, wonderful and extreme acts for parents and children alike, the day features juggler Mat Ricardo, magician El Baldinho and hula-hooping majorettes. Saturday, 26 January

Knock2Bag comedy: Rich Mix

Award-winning comedy night Knock2Bag opens at Rich Mix on Saturday night with a brilliant show headlined by the gloriously absurd, loud and ridiculous Tony Law. Other acts include the wacky Sam Fletcher, charismatic newcomer Jack Barry, rising comic Mae Martin, the unforgettable Ed Aczel and the inventive Ed Gamble. Saturday, 26 January

Winter walks: Lea Valley and Olympic Park

Organised by Walk London, these free guided walks explore localities and themes and are open to all no matter the fitness level. On Saturday, explore the glorious Lea Valley with a six-mile route on the River Lea Path, which takes in Hackney Marshes and the Olympic Park. On Sunday take part in a ‘Jubilympics’, a five-mile walk from Angel to Hackney Wick. Not only is walking carbon free, it is also proven to reduce stress and improve your physical health. Saturday and Sunday, 26-27 January

LoCo London Comedy Festival: Hackney Picturehouse

Funny film festival LoCo comes to Hackney this weekend with a couple of superb comedies from the Middle East. On Saturday the Picturehouse is screening Vulgaria, a fast-paced, funny and cheerfully vulgar comedy about the movie business. UFO in her eyes, an award-winning and sparkling satire about an alien space-ship sighting that triggers a tourism boom in a Chinese village, is showing on Sunday. Saturday and Sunday, 26-27 January
