Video: celebrating Hackney's markets

WHY not take a trip to some of Hackney's eclectic shopping destinations as part of Love Your Local Market fortnight, 15 to 29 May?

Markets all over the country are celebrating their traders and producers as a reminder of what is available on our doorsteps, while offering a window into local communities.

To mark the launch, Destination Hackney met some of the stall holders in the borough to find out what being a trader means to them.

Featured in this video are three Hackney Council-run or supported markets. Each has their own personality; from the hipster-loving Broadway Market, to Ridley Road's international flavour, and Chatsworth Road's relaxed vibe.

There are plenty of other noteworthy markets in Hackney, including Stoke Newington Farmers’ Market, which is the first in the UK to feature only organic and biodynamic producers; vintage markets like Hackney Homemade and Dusty Fingers; and Well Street, where Tesco founder Jack Cohen set up his first stall.

Visit Destination Hackney's markets page to find out more. Tweet your Love Your Local Market photos at #LYLM2013.
