Urban and natural worlds collide in Hackney Downs art show

NATURE and city lovers alike can experience a creative mash-up of the two worlds at this exhibition.

‘The call of the wild’ - at A Side B Side Gallery - asks whether we are closer to nature, or if the animals we share this urban environment with are claiming back what is theirs.

Is the city so distant from nature or is it a wilderness of its own? Should we learn to live with nature’s creatures that are natural survivors just like us humans?

Illustrators and designers give their take on nature in the city and how it influences their working practice.

The exhibition has been organised by illustrator Laura Hughes, who is also displaying her art work. She has worked with the Oxford University Press and Hinkler Books. Among the illustrators exhibiting will be Colourbox, aka Joe Rogers; Sandra Dieckman, who produces effective portraits with a dark edge; and Ekaterina Trukhan, whose debut picture book ‘Me And my cat’ was published by Macmillan last year.

Held at A-side B-side Gallery in Hackney Downs Studios over 24-27 January, the exhibition will feature pieces available to purchase. Admission is free. For more info, e-mail: info@asidebsidegallery.com
