Preview: Film Africa 2012

FROM family antics in Chad to the struggle for LGBT rights in Uganda, cinema-goers can take a filmic tour of the African continent, Nile to Cape, as part of London's only annual African film festival.

Film Africa, is a 10-day celebration of the best work from across countries and genres, showcasing 70 fictional, documentary, short, and experimental films at venues in Hackney and around London.

In its second year, Film Africa will also welcome 30 filmmakers whose work features in the festival, to participate in a range of lively Q&As, panel discussions, professional and educational workshops, family activities and music nights.

Hackney Picturehouse and Rich Mix will be among those hosting the festival, organised by the Royal African Society and School of Oriental and African Studies.

Participating cinemas in other parts of the capital include the Ritzy, Screen on the Green, BFI Southbank and South London Gallery.

Film Africa runs from 1 to 11 November. For more info, visit: www.filmafrica.org.uk
