Haggerston Park to screen Olympic Games

FROM 20.12pm, on Friday, 27 July, Haggerston Park will be a window on the 2012 Games, as the Olympic opening ceremony is broadcast live on a big screen – for free.

The E2 park will be the only managed, outdoor viewing area in Hackney – with the added bonus of the Olympic stadium being less than three miles away to create real atmosphere and excitement.

The big screen will be open from 11.30am every day of the Games. As well as live broadcasts, there will also be a wide range of sporting activities on offer at a 'Hackney 2012 sports zone'.

In other developments, residents are being advised to watch the opening ceremony at home on TV, rather than travelling to Stratford or other public spaces near the Olympic Park.

With 80,000 ticket holders travelling to the Park this evening, Londoners should try to avoid the Stratford stations and other hot spots on the capital’s transport system.

There will also be no afternoon or evening shopping at Stratford Westfield on 27 July. The centre closes at 3pm to ensure swift access for performers and spectators to the Olympic stadium for the opening ceremony.

During Games time, from 28 July to 12 August, the shopping centre will be open for extended hours between 9am and 11pm.
