Hackney Hear mobile phone app wins innovation award

A HACKNEY-based smartphone app, Hackney Hear, has won an innovation accolade at the Prix Europa Radio Production of the Year Awards.

Triggering audio via GPS-location technology, Hackney Hear provides an innovative way to explore and rediscover London Fields by listening to the stories of residents, local writers and musicians.

With 600 entries from 38 countries, winning the award was a real achievement for the small team.

The Council-supported project was commended as being a first in audio and technology. The app was one of 15 projects ‘pre-selected’ by Prix Europa to be showcased at the awards in Berlin in October.

Francesca Panetta, Director of Hackney Hear, said: "We are so thrilled and honoured to receive this award. Prix Europa sets the highest standard for radio, TV and online content.

"To be considered as a driving force in radio, pushing both the content and technology forwards, is such a compliment."
