Applications for Hackney BFI Film Academy open

BRITISH Film Institute (BFI) and youth arts charity Eastside is offering Hackney-based free filmmaking courses for 16 to 19 year olds.

Passionate and aspiring young filmmakers from all backgrounds across London can win an 'opportunity to become part of the UK’s future film industry' at the six-week course, according to organisers.

Called the BFI Film Academy, the course sees participants work with an award-winning filmmaker, take part in master classes and workshops with industry professionals, hear tips about succeeding in the industry, practice developing and pitching ideas and produce short films and documentaries. Participants will also be eligible to be put forward for a Silver Arts Award.

Training takes place on Saturdays at Eastside's headquarters in Shoreditch.

To apply, it’s probably best to be fairly comfortable in front of the camera: BFI is asking applicants to submit a mini film of themselves, explaining why they should be selected for the training.

The deadline is 21 January with classes beginning in February. For more info, visit www.eastside.org.uk
