Panto 'Dick Whittington and his Cat' set to dazzle at Hackney Empire

THE Olympics may be behind us, but there is still plenty to look forward to this year as Dick Whittington and his Cat promises to be another Hackney hit.

Susie McKenna and her critically acclaimed team are back for another year of festive flair, producing one of London’s most popular pantos at the Hackney Empire.

This year’s tantalising performance features show-stopping songs, dazzling dance routines, bags of comedy and, you guessed it, audience participation aplenty, as Dick Whittington and his loyal cat embark on a thrilling quest to find fame and fortune on the streets of London.

The show introduces a new dame to Hackney, Sarah the Cook, played by Steve Elias. He has already created a stir on Facebook in a video that sees him in full panto finery, startling residents with a flamboyant appearance at Ridley Road and Broadway markets, accompanied by Barbara the Sheep.

Panto favourites Joanna Riding, who dazzled audiences as the evil stepmother in ‘Cinderella’ last year, and delightfully ugly sisters Kat B and Tony Whittle return: Riding as bold adventurer Dick; Whittle as the loveable Fitzwarren; and Kat B as the dastardly King Rat.

Dick Whittington and his Cat has all the ingredients for the perfect Christmas treat, with a Hackney twist. But don’t leave it too late – tickets for this glittering show are selling faster than hotcakes.
