Dalston music and arts festival Land of Kings returns for May Bank Holiday

ELECTRO producer Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (TEED) is to headline Dalston’s annual music and arts festival Land of Kings (LOK).

Now in its fifth year, LOK brings 15 continuous hours of artistic and hidden adventures to bars, clubs, cultural venues and open spaces up and down Kingsland Road during the first May Bank Holiday weekend.

New to 2013, an outdoor ‘castle stage’ will host live music and DJs in creative hub Bootstrap’s car park. With nearby sites Thames House, Dalston Eastern Curve Garden, Dalston Roof Park, Café Oto, Arcola Tent and the newly refurbished Arcola Theatre, to create a pop-up entertainment quarter off Dalston Junction. Other Hackney venues signed up include Vortex Jazz Bar and Shacklewell Arms.

TEED (aka Orlando Higginbottom) will perform for the second time at the Dalston festival, following his set at the first LOK in 2009. He has since created an acclaimed album and embarked on a globetrotting tour.

Blending metal, disco and acid house, frenzied musicians Chrome Hoof have also been added to the roster, as have Halls, Bo Ningen, Paradise, PVT, Circle Traps and Seams. Plus Friendly Fires are set to DJ.

Along with music, punters can dive into a record fair in Gillett Square, try musical bingo, film soundtrack karaoke, check out a UV room designed by Hackney’s Camille Walala and get involved in a cabaret (of sorts) from performance artists the Women’s Committee.

Land of Kings takes place on 5 May, 2pm-5am. Tickets cost £30.

For more information on the other loft parties, basement ruckus, games and secret showcases that take place during the festival visit the Land of Kings website.
