Dalston gallery pays homage to Ridley Road Market

DALSTON newcomer, the Fishbar Gallery, has collaborated with Italian photographer Lorenzo Vitturi to pay homage to Ridley Road Market.

Vitturi's work is created with material collected from the market itself to craft extravagant pieces, merging sculpture, collage and painting.

As the culmination of a year-long project, these 'photo-sculptures' are displayed in the gallery and along Ridley Road itself.

Words from local poet and author, Sam Berkson, also accompany the exhibition, which reflects the vibe and versatility of Ridley Road Market over the years since it was founded in the 1880s.

The market sells food from Asia, Africa, the Caribbean and Mediterranean, giving it a rich history of cultures created by all the people that choose to call Hackney home.

Dalston Anatomy runs until 16 June, at Fishbar Gallery, 176 Dalston Lane, E8 1NG.
