Free tote bags available for Hackney shoppers

SHOPPERS who spend more than £10 in participating markets can get a free tote bag created by Hackney designers.

The launch of the fashionable bags, produced by Atalanta Weller and Simone Rocha, forms part of Hackney Council's 'Love Hackney, Shop Local' campaign.

It aims to promote the borough's vibrant markets that dish up good grub, as well as crafts, household supplies, toys and clothing.

It is also hoped that the campaign will encourage consumers to shop with reusable bags to help the borough continue to be one of the greenest in London.

Participating traders will display a 'Love Hackney, Shop Local' sign on their stalls and distribute tokens to claim a bag with purchases.

The Council commissioned Hackney-based fashion designers Mark Fast and William Richard Green to also design tote bags as part of the campaign earlier in the year.

The offer will be available at Broadway Market on 13 October; Chatsworth Road on 14 October; Ridley Road on 19 October; and Hoxton Market on 20 October.
