The Rock stops robbery while filming Fast and the Furious 6 in Hackney

ACTOR The Rock is rumoured to have single-handedly foiled an attempted robbery in Hackney over the weekend.

The former wrestler, real name Dwayne Johnson, was working on Fast and Furious 6 in Hoxton when he spotted some opportunistic thieves attempting to break into vans.

Dressed as a FBI agent, the 20 stone, 6ft 5ins star was said to have abandoned a scene to confront the group.

An insider on the set was reported to have said: “It was so funny. The Rock had his flak jacket on and an FBI badge in his hand. The lads jumped out of their skin and scarpered off down the canal path.”

The source joked the film company should drop its security firm and let the ex-wrestler takeover instead.

Hackney is a popular location for film-makers. This year the borough has seen Brad Pitt shoot The Counsellor here; and A Fantastic Fear of Everything starring Simon Pegg; while Red 2, starring Helen Mirren and Bruce Willis, is set to shoot scenes later in 2012.
