We love...weekends

WITH an ear firmly to the ground and an eye on the clock, Destination Hackney looks forward to another two and a bit days of activities taking place in the borough.

Movimientos: 28 September
The forward thinking music promoters bring more global rhythms to Hackney, this time at Rich Mix. Performers include Orchestre Du Mont-Plaisant, 7Suns and Malphino. Soak up some Ethiopian jazz, Congolese soukous and cumbia.

In it to swing it: 28 September
William Rixon and his jazz band Pancake Batter takeover Hackney Attic. The group have studied the greatest jazz musicians of the 1920s-1940s and are putting on a night of live ‘in the pocket’ swing. Arrive at 7.30pm to get discounted dance lessons from Hackney troupe Swing Patrol. www.picturehouses.co.uk/cinema/Hackney_Picturehouse

Wrestling fundraiser for St Mary of Eton Church: 29 September
Can you smell what this fundraiser's cooking? It’s sweat. From wrestling. The Hackney Wick church is raising money for new chairs by getting in a bunch of ill-mannered, low-down dirty wrestlers to entertain all-comers. Not really, they’re probably very nice. Expect an afternoon of high jumps, sleeper holds and pin falls with Alex ‘Wonder Kid’ Kent, CJ Gunner and TJ Sky.

Markets: 29-30 September
Apparently there will be a respite from autumn showers over Saturday and Sunday, so a visit to Hackney’s markets could be due. Broadway, Chatsworth Road, Ridley, Well Street and many others open over the weekend.

Sutton House Family Day: 30 September
This Grade II listed family house opens for a free family day. Explore treasure chests in its historic rooms, play games and make costumes in preparation for Halloween.
