First acts announced for all-star charity concert Little Noise Sessions

RICHARD Hawley, Noah and The Whale, and The Maccabees are the first headliners to be announced for Mencap’s Little Noise Sessions 2012.

The annual series of live gigs that raise money for people with learning disabilities returns to St John-at-Hackney Church from 20 to 25 November. The event is supported by Destination Hackney.

Mercury Prize nominated singer Richard Hawley plays on 21 November, with support from Swedish folk duo First Aid Kit and London’s King Charles.

On 23 November, The Maccabees, also nominated for a Mercury prize this year, will perform their short listed album Given to the Wild. Blues musician Jamie N Commons is also set to play on the night.

Noah and the Whale takeover for 24 November, with support slots from Villagers, Lucy Rose and Daughter.

BBC Radio 2 DJ, and Mencap ambassador, Jo Whiley is curating the six-day festival. She said: “We’re back at St John-at-Hackney Church, which inspired a truly electric atmosphere for fans and artists alike last year – there really is nothing more extraordinary than seeing big artists perform in such an intimate and beautiful venue.

“We have a week of incredible shows lined up, all in aid of Mencap and supporting people with a learning disability.”

Last year Elbow, Goldfrapp, Example, Chris Martin, and Marina and the Diamonds were among the acts that performed in the Clapton church.

Further line-up announcements for 2012 are to follow in the coming weeks. Tickets are on sale now.
