We love New Year's Eve

THE biggest party night of the year sees Hackney put out a smorgasbord of festivities on 31 December. Countdown to 2013 at a cockney knees up in The Book Club, gypsy folk food fest at Hackney Pearl or traditional pub party in Clapton Hart.

Clapton Hart

Renovated and reinvigorated, Clapton Hart is putting on a free New Year’s Eve party with DJs playing indie, rock, northern soul, hip hop and disco until 2am. The pub prides itself on its real ale and craft beer selection, harvested from local breweries, in a cosy setting. Definitely a boozer that reflects Clapton’s diversity and should cater for most punters’ desires.

London Fields Brewery

London Fields Brewery toasts the years behind and ahead with live music and DJs at its E8 home. DJs will be spinning the tunes until 7am plus synth/guitar quartet Native Tongue will be playing live. Oh, and the management behind the innovative brewery said it definitely won’t be inflating prices for its 31 December party.

The Book Club

Over at The Book Club, Jon Carter headlines a cockney themed shindig that runs until 4am. While the dancehall, hip hop and acid house DJ plays his mash-up music style, elsewhere the bar will be brass swing, music hall classics, traditional east end food and The Book Club’s usual combination of top creativity and silliness. Dress code is east London old and new: market traders, pearly kings and queens, grime kids, bashment girls, fashion victims, Oliver Twist, Olympians, The Krays, Made In Dagenham and Pat Butcher.

The Hackney Pearl

Eat and be merry at Hackney Pearl. The E9 restaurant will offer a night of food and gypsy folk, care of Tzinganarama, until 1am. A fixed price three-course menu will be available depending on whether you’re leaving for another party of staying for the midnight chimes.

Die Freche Muse

New Year’s Eve wouldn’t be New Year’s Eve without someone looking for a secret party in the middle of the night. Still keeping its location under wraps, Die Freche Muse will have an exotic and decadent event in the great tradition of 1920s Berlin cabaret. Live music comes from Swing Ninjas playing jazz from the early 20th century, plus there will be showgirls, tango acts and DJs until 4am. Tickets are extraordinarily limited – only 150 are available – and cabaret-style fancy dress is mandatory.
