Ha Ha Hackney opens the joke book

HACKNEY Empire has released more of its summer comedy programme Ha Ha Hackney.

On 16 August, Barbara Windsor hosts an evening celebrating women who started their career in variety theatre from Marie Lloyd to Beryl Reed. 'From The Halls' includes British Film Institute footage and guests such as Josie Lawrence and Joanna Riding.

Female comedians continue on 23 August, with 'Some Girls Can Do It Standing Up'. Vintage material, this time of comics, is interspersed with live performance from today’s emerging talent.

The Empire revisits the 1980s when Margaret Thatcher – sorry, Spitting Image’s voice actor Steve Nallon – takes the audience through her years in Government. ‘Maggie, Maggie, Maggie’ on 1 September also features Arthur Smith, Hardeep Singh Kohli, and Tony Slattery with music from Graeae Theatre's Reasons To Be Cheerful band.

Afro-Caribbean classic TV stars take over on 2 September, when cast members from 'No Problem', 'The Real McCoy', 'Three Non Blondes' and 'Love Thy Neighbour' entertain.

Finally, 'The Golden Years of Variety' concludes the juggernaut programme of performances on 9 September. Roy Hudd, Barry Cryer, Lionel Blair, and Rick Wakeman will be game for a laugh.
