We love weekends

WHETHER it’s racing round the ice rink or live music all the way from Senegal, there’s an enticing event for all ages to enjoy in this festive line-up of what's on in Hackney.

Stoke Newington Farmers’ Market, Evering Road

This organic foods market has moved a stone’s throw from its usual home on Stoke Newington High Street to West Hackney Recreation Ground. In addition to its usual small organic farmers and local producers, this festive themed market offers an exciting range of organic lavender products, hand-knitted goods and preserves from Essex organic growers. Saturday, 15 December

Illuminate! Festival of light at Dalston Eastern Curve Garden

Dalston Eastern Curve Garden will be stylishly lit-up this weekend with an imaginative display of silhouette jam jars, paper bags with magical cut-outs and shadow light-boxes. Raise funds for a local cycling club for people with learning disabilities and listen to carols sung by the Jubilee Community Choir on Saturday. Immerse yourself in a tale from the Caravan of storytellers on Sunday, or take part in a festive ukulele strum. Saturday and Sunday, 15-16 December

Carols by Candlelight at St John at Hackney Church

There is nothing quite like carols to put you in a festive frame of mind; even better if it’s in an atmospheric setting of a candlelit church - the iconic St-John-at-Hackney located in the centre of the borough. This promises to be a moving, memorable occasion. Sunday, 16 December

Mwalimu Express at Rich Mix

Rich Mix brings you a free lunchtime pan-African adventure for all the family, with live music from West African Blues Project featuring talented musicians Modou Toure and Ramon Goose. And what’s more, there’ll be Senegalese tunes from DJ hosts Rita Ray and Max Reinhardt, African games, a film screening and family dance workshops, plus stalls, a well-stocked bar and snacks. Sunday, 16 December

Free ice-skating and light display, Hoxton Square and Lower Clapton Road

Get your skates on and experience a magical light display by Poke and EE at Hoxton Square and St-John-at-Hackney, Lower Clapton Road. Whether you’re whizzing round the rink or holding the handbags and taking in the lights, this is an enjoyable day for all ages. 15-22 December
