We love weekends

Urban Observations: Los Angeles, Angus Hughes Gallery

Catch six short films on the people and places of Los Angeles in a one-off screening at the Angus-Hughes Gallery on Lower Clapton Road. Spanning an era from the early 1960s up until 2011, filmmaker and director Adam Hyman selected the six films, which explore the fantastic geography of Los Angeles through the eyes of multiple generations of filmmakers. At home with the Ludskis, Rio Cinema

Innovative filmmakers, artists, musicians and performers take over Rio Cinema in Dalston for a unique late-night art club featuring an eclectic mix of plastic art, live music, popcorn, painting, art exhibitions, film screenings and live performances. For those with avant-garde tastes, 'At home with the Ludskis' promises to be an intriguing, alternative night out. Running as part of the London Short Film Festival. Saturday, 12 January

Cian Nugent, Café Oto

Cian Nugent, a guitar player from Dublin, Ireland, gives an emotional performance at Café Oto influenced by blues, traditional music, 1960s and 1970s singer-songwriters, psychedelic rock, jazz and 20th century composition. He creates an orchestrated, fully instrumental sound that is both playful and eerie. Electric trio The Family Elan reinvent traditional music forms in the support slot. Saturday, 12 January
