Jay-Z runs this town

EMERGING from the darkness with fellow headliner Rihanna by his side, the US superstar rapper urged Hackney to ‘bounce’.

And it literally did, with Hackney Weekend festival-goers throwing themselves into his 70-minute closing set on 23 June with abandon.

The 42-year-old delivered hit after hit including ‘99 Problems’, ‘Empire State Of Mind’, and ‘Girls, Girls, Girls’, watched by his wife Beyonce who was dancing away in front of the stage.

The closing track ‘Paris’ was performed with Kanye West. The duo ran through it three times because the crowd couldn’t get enough of it – or them – idols and role models for the core of the nearly 50,000 strong audience.

With East London’s Olympic Park illuminated in the background and a nationwide audience watching on TV and the Internet – it was a proud moment for Hackney.
