Third Hackney Film Festival to open

AUTUMN marks the launch of the third annual Hackney Film Festival (HFF). A diverse programme of screenings, Q&As, live shows and performances that will entertain audiences from 7 to 9 September.

The festival opens with a collaborative event with Live Cinema Foundation, a new Hackney-based organisation, which supports 'emerging digital culture at the intersection between film, music and the performing arts'. The two organisations will co-curate a night of audio-visual delights at The New Empowering Church, E8, on Friday, 7 September, featuring a roster of acclaimed acts.

On Saturday, 8 September, the HFF unveils a daring and impressive selection of independent and BAFTA-award winning cinema capturing Hackney on film. In the evening, Café Oto hosts an exploration of the film and video art practice of Expanded Cinema, featuring live performances.

On Sunday, 9 September, Hackney Picturehouse will be the venue for IdeasTap’s Emerging Filmmakers Screening, a focus on young up-and-coming filmmakers to inspire the next generation of talent from the borough.

The festival closes with a free screening of Andrew Kötting and Iain Sinclair’s Olympic-sized travelogue ‘Swandown’, amongst others. The duo will later take part in a Q&A hosted by Gareth Evans. The event fittingly takes place at the Carlton London, in Hackney Wick, overlooking the Paralympic closing ceremony.
