Stamford Hill

A BUSTLING town centre surrounded by quiet residential streets, Stamford Hill offers a range of shopping experiences, from a Brazilian butcher to kosher goods.

Hasidic Jews Stamford Hill Hackney

It is home to the largest Hasidic Jewish population in Europe, a community of almost 30,000 people. The black-hatted, bearded men wear traditional dress that has changed little since the 19th century. Hasidic families are the main inhabitants of this Edwardian neighbourhood, though its large houses have made it popular with families of all backgrounds.

It’s well worth visiting Stamford Hill for the festival of Purim when the Hasidic community comes out in fancy dress to revel in the streets and commemorate the deliverance of the Jewish people from the ancient Persians.

It also boasts the 40-acre Green Flag-winning Springfield Park, which offers spectacular views of North East London and Walthamstow Marshes, as well as a bowling green, table tennis and outdoor chess boards.

Stamford Hill has an overland train station providing connections to Liverpool Street and the City, while the nearest Underground stop can be found along Seven Sisters Road, at Manor House.
