WHETHER you want to you want to survey the scene, or be seen; tap away on your laptop; have a meeting, or a hearty breakfast - Hackney’s cafe culture is varied and thriving.

Old school 'greasy spoon' cafes are still going strong in Hackney, offering good value breakfast, lunch and dinner staples. While new cafes are continually popping up all over the borough, particularly down little side streets off the beaten track.

On Stoke Newington Church Street, you will find a clutch of cafes selling great coffee, cakes and pastries. Turn a corner and head down the A10 towards Dalston, and there are many excellent Turkish cafes and bakeries, where you can sample traditional breakfasts and authentic cuisine.

Broadway Market on a Saturday is a fantastic place to sit and watch the world go by once you have sampled the best of what this busy market has to offer. While Wilton Way has been compared to Williamsburg, home of the New York hipster.

Keep walking further towards Hoxton and discover more amazing independent cafes, the like of which Hackney is fast becoming famous for.
